GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – The Margaritaville, a cruise ship which has served the island of Grand Bahama for over a decade, once provided weekly non-stop service several times a week between Freeport and West Palm Beach, Florida.

However, the company has recently reduced the number of days it travels to Grand Bahama.

Straw vendors in the Port Lucaya Marketplace say the move is causing their businesses to suffer, making it difficult to cope financially.

Straw vendor Tanya Higgins reflecting on the more prosperous years of the late 1990’s and early 2000’s.

She is now calling on the powers that be to secure another cruise ship from Florida to help revive business.

However, for these other straw vendors, they say the issue goes beyond the cruise-ship.
