Man Reacts to Sister’s Death

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Nearly one month after frantically searching for his sister Kethia Felix Benius, Felix Diego Benius is now coming to grips with the death of his loved one. He recently got news confirming that his sister lost her life in that ill-fated smuggling attempt.

The last time Benius says he spoke with his sister Kethia was around 6pm on July 23, the day before the smuggling attempt turned deadly.

He says she was heading to her fiancé who lives in Miami.

However, Benius says he didn’t know his sister’s identity was made public until we sent him a police report with the information.

But now that his worst nightmare has been confirmed he says he’s hoping to give his sister a proper burial in The Bahamas.

Forty-five individuals were onboard a 33-foot twin-engine vessel when it capsized around seven miles off of New Providence.

A one-year-old girl is among 17 people who died in the tragedy. The victims are all believed to be Haitian nationals.

So far, six victims have been identified and four men charged with 18 counts of manslaughter in connection with the incident.

The new father also responding to some backlash following the incident, explaining why Haitian nationals risk their lives to journey to another country.
