NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Sentencing for a woman who admitted to physically abusing her four-year-old daughter before she was murdered has been delayed due to the birth of her third child.

Ostonya Walker, the mother of murder victim D’onya “Bella” Walker, gave birth last Thursday.

As a result, her sentencing has been adjourned to March 22, 2023.

On January 16, 2023, Walker pleaded guilty to charges of child cruelty and exposing a child to grievous harm and she was remanded into custody to await sentencing.

Prosecutors say Walker and her live-in boyfriend Darion Smith physically abused the toddler before she died on November 5, 2021.

Bella was left in Smith’s care while her mother was at work.

Smith pleaded guilty to her murder and was sentenced to 25 years in prison as part of a plea deal that he entered into on January 16.

Walker pleaded guilty without knowing what sentence the court will impose.
