GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – President-Elect Donald Trump vows to tackle illegal immigration promising to deport thousands of undocumented immigrants from the United States.

International reports say Trump’s deportation effort may involve military personnel and other government resources however, some warn this approach could be costly, divisive and could lead to humanitarian issues

The president-elect’s website, donaldjtrump.com, Agenda 47 highlights a proposed executive order to end birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants and to ban birth tourism which is all a part of Trump’s strategy to further secure America’s borders.

The news now creating unease among some Bahamians, many of whom are concerned about the potential impact.

When asked about some of the concerns, U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Kimberley Furnish said it is always interesting to see the behind the scenes in a transition between two administrations.

“Now is really a time for Mr. Trump and his team to begin their planning process, so it’ll be really interesting to see what the next few months, hold, and like I said we’re looking forward to a great inauguration coming up,” she said.

Well, should Bahamians feel uncomfortable in any way about the recent reports?

“America loves The Bahamas, everything is going to be okay,” Furnish said.
