NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Belinda Wilson has declared victory in the Bahamas Union of Teachers elections, held Thursday.

In a mass message sent out on social media, Wilson said, “Belinda Wilson President Bahamas Union of Teachers has won again… This is Wilson’s 6th consecutive time as President.”

With the unofficial win, Wilson becomes the longest serving President and longest serving Executive in the history of the BUT.

Wilson was challenged by Dion Johnson, and long-standing union member Jacqueline McKenzie.

In a phone interview with Our News, Johnson conceded, explaining he did his best to offer himself for the role of presidency of the BUT.

Johnson said based on the unofficial results, Wilson and her A team won 13 out of 15 Executive positions.
