Trio Accused of Bus Passengers’ Death Await Manslaughter Sentencing

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Three men found criminally responsible for the death of a public bus passenger are behind bars awaiting sentencing for manslaughter and causing damage.

Dwayne Harris, Antonio Brown and James Petithomme initially faced a murder charge in relation to the March 11, 2016 death of 15-year-old Mizilaine Beauchamp.

The tenth grade honor student at Government High School was on her way to school when a group of men launched a rock attack on the bus in the area of Carmichael and Lazaretto Roads.

The rocks broke the bus’ windows and one of them struck Mizilaine in the head, fracturing her skull.

Jurors acquitted the accused of murder but found them guilty of the lesser charge of manslaughter and causing damage.

Justice Neil Brathwaite will hold a sentencing hearing in September.
