Man Accused of Killing Girlfriend Elected to Remain Silent at Trial

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend has elected to remain silent at his trial.

Trevor Smith, 53,  is on trial for the October 10, 2012 murder of 21-year-old Anthonique Hunter.

While Smith did not take the witness stand at his trial, jurors heard his account during the trial.

According to Smith, Hunter woke him up and told him she had laced his drink with rat poison and that he was going to die.

He claimed that Hunter attacked him with a knife and he stabbed her after he gained control of the weapon.

Smith claimed that he panicked after the stabbing and fled the apartment.

Prosecutors allege that Hunter tried to break up with Smith and was killed because he refused to move on.
