Relief Supplies Shipped To Southern Islands

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As recovery efforts ramp up across the southern islands, residents and good Samaritans gathered at Potter’s Cay Dock today to send much-needed relief supplies to communities hit hard by Hurricane Melissa.

Items like lumber, cement, and food were stacked high, ready to be loaded onto several mailboats bound for islands still reeling from flooding and wind damage.

Among those lending a helping hand was Nassau resident Dion Godet, who says his Crooked Island home suffered severe roof damage. He sent lumber and other building materials to start repairs, noting that even finding fuel has been difficult.

At the dock, Jayette Burrows, agent for the Mia Dean mailboat to Long Island, praised residents for rallying together: “Families here have made sure families there are receiving whatever they need.”

Meanwhile, RORO Company Operations Manager Mark Stubbs said shipments to San Salvador were steady, though deliveries to Crooked Island and Acklins have been slower than expected following the storm.

With power and infrastructure restoration still underway, islanders are depending on these shipments as a vital lifeline in their path to recovery.
