NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After struggling for playing time recently, Buddy Hield has put up some familiar numbers in the last two wins for the Golden State Warriors.
The Warriors continued a recent midseason surge with a 135–112 win over the Miami Heat last night at the Chase Center.
Hield finished with 16 points in 23 minutes off the bench, knocking down four three-pointers as the Warriors broke the game open in the second half.
He is averaging just under eight points per game in approximately 17 minutes a night — career-low numbers across the board.
In six January games, the Warriors are 4-2. In three of those games, Hield scored double figures, but in the other three he played less than seven minutes.
Now the Warriors have lost Jimmy Butler to a torn ACL, so it remains to be seen if that changes Hield’s place in the rotation or his status on the trade block.
Meanwhile, over in the Eastern Conference, VJ Edgecombe and the Philadelphia 76ers picked up a 113–104 win over the Indiana Pacers.
Edgecombe finished with 11 points, five rebounds and four assists.
The 76ers are fifth in the East at 23-18, while the Warriors cling to the eighth seed in the West at 25-19.
Burrows and Bridgewater reunited in France
Whenever Domnick Bridgewater and Kino Burrows reunite on the court, great things happen.
Burrows recently signed with Fos Provence Basket in France’s NM1 league as a medical replacement for Saydou Diallo.
The move not only brought back a veteran presence to the club but also reunited Burrows with Bridgewater in France’s third division.
They hit the court in a 99-69 win over Charleville to improve to 14-5, third in the league.
Burrows had 12 points and five rebounds. Bridgewater had a game-high 21 points with five assists.
Burrows has a long-standing history with Fos Provence Basket. He first signed with the club in 2016 and was part of the promotion to Pro A several years later.
He made another brief return in 2020, making this latest signing his sixth season with the organization across several stints.
Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves off to historic start
We may be at the ground floor of one of the most dominant runs in local sports.
The Anatol Rodgers Timberwolves senior boys basketball team has been a high-scoring force early this season, posting three straight games of more than 100 points.
Head coach Denycko Bowles and his crew opened their campaign with a 119-17 win over the Doris Johnson Mystic Marlins, followed by a 127-26 victory against CC Sweeting, and most recently a 106-37 rout of the CR Walker Knights yesterday.
That is an average margin of victory of 91 points per game.
The defending GSSSA champions swept the CI Gibson Rattlers in last year’s league final but ultimately fell short with a loss to the Rattlers in the Hugh Campbell Final Four.
