MIAMI, FLORIDA – Jury selection is now underway in Miami in the federal trial linked to the 2021 assassination of Haitian President Jovenel Moïse.

Four men are accused of conspiring in South Florida to kidnap or kill the Haitian leader.

Prosecutors say South Florida served as a key hub for planning and financing the plot that led to Moïse’s killing.

The president was shot dead at his home near Port-Au-Prince in July 2021 by a group of foreign mercenaries, mostly from Colombia, while his wife Martine Moïse was wounded in the attack.

The four defendants have pleaded not guilty and could face life in prison if convicted.
