NASSAU , BAHAMAS – On night two of the BAAAs Combined Nationals, throws and jumps led the way in the field, while the quarter-milers produced standout performances and record-breakers on the track.

It was the showdown we all anticipated in the open women’s 400 metres, and it delivered.

Javonya Valcourt captured the national title in a world-class 51.01 seconds, holding off Laracthea Cooper, who ran a personal best 51.18 for silver, while Collinique Farrington completed a thrilling podium in 51.29.

The under-20 boys then stole the show as Zion Davis shattered the national record in 45.64 seconds.

Other 400-metre champions included Saige Demeritte in the under-20 girls in 53.99 seconds, Varon Pinder in the under-18 boys in 48.04 seconds, and CARIFTA medalist Keyezra Thomas in the under-18 girls in 55.27 seconds.

In the field, Jalen Cadet soared to a personal best 7.86 metres to win the men’s long jump, Anthaya Charlton claimed the women’s long jump at 6.23 metres, Carlin Archer won the under-20 boys triple jump at 7.32 metres, and Keyshawn Strachan launched 80.31 metres to win the men’s javelin.

We revisit the path to the medal round at the BBA’s Andre Rodgers National Championships.

Presented by the Brice Newball Foundation, the tournament came to a close Sunday afternoon as seven national champions were crowned across the country’s top youth divisions.

Freedom Farm entered Championship Sunday with six teams playing for national titles, but it was a diverse group vying for medals. Grand Bahama Little League, Legacy Baseball, Mario Ford Little League and the Junior Baseball League of Nassau also had teams making championship appearances.
