Fox Hill Festival Committee Unveils Plans For Emancipation Celebrations

NASSAU, THE BAHAMAS – Fox Hill Day is just around the corner and the Fox Hill Festival committee chairman Warren Davis says planning is in full swing.

The celebrations kicks off August 2nd with an opening ceremony and will culminate on August 11th with the highly anticipated Fox Hill Day Festival.

But this year, Davis says organizers are introducing something new – a town hall meeting aimed at reconnecting the community with its roots.

“This town hall meeting will feature entrepreneurs and representatives from the agriculture sector. They’ll put their products on display, and at the end of the night, we’ll even send persons home with an agriculture package so they can start backyard farming.”

And when it comes to the main event. Davis says the Emancipation Day Junkanoo rushout will once again be a major highlight.

“Our signature events are the greasy pole and the plaiting of the maypole. This year we’re also adding a hot dog eating competition, along with live entertainment.”

That live entertainment will feature some of the country’s popular Bahamian artist, including Nishe l.S., Shine and D-Mac.

But Davis says the festival is about much more than entertainment. He says it remains a celebration of the history and sacrifices that shaped The Bahamas.

“If you remember emancipation, it all starts here. Emancipation was celebrated beginning in 1838, and we’re still honoring that history today.”

Now Davis is inviting everyone, whether they call Fox Hill home or not, to come out, take part and experience the rich culture and heritage of the community.
