25 States Sue Over Trump’s New Tariffs, Calling Them ‘Pretext’ to Replace His Old Ones

UNITED STATES – Twenty-five states sued the Trump administration Monday over its latest tariffs, calling them an attempt to replace import taxes that the Supreme Court struck down in February.

The United States last month imposed double-digit tariffs on 59 countries and the European Union, accusing them of failing to do enough to prevent imports produced through forced labor.

The new tariffs took effect as temporary tariffs President Donald Trump had implemented after the Supreme Court ruling expired.

Trump previously invoked the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act, or IEEPA, to impose tariffs on imports from nearly every country, but the Supreme Court ruled that the law did not authorize the use of tariffs.
