UNITED STATES – U.S. President Donald Trump promised the government wouldn’t limit the development of artificial intelligence, even as top executives of AI firms that have called for caution convened in Washington.

Top AI executives had lunch with Trump at the White House, including Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, OpenAI President Greg Brockman, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, whose X platform has its own AI model.

Trump’s confidence in AI is in sharp contrast to the alarms sounded by AI executives in recent days.

Amodei earlier this month called for leading firms to slow down their development of the technology, while OpenAI said Friday it would pause training of its latest model amid reports of AI agents acting without authorization.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also said Tuesday that the company is increasingly focused on safety, saying the company is pacing its progress and will sometimes choose not to train a model when safety standards have not been met.
