NASSAU, BAHAMAS – An 18-year-old murder accused will remain in custody after a supreme court judge refused to grant him bail.

Malachi McDermott is charged with the March 13th murder of Brent McPhee Jr., who was shot on Homestead Street.

Mcdermott was 17 years old at the time of the alleged shooting.

Prosecutors allege that an anonymous eyewitness identified McDermott as the shooter.

Justice Renae McKay denied the bail application, citing concerns about public safety.

In her ruling, the judge found that conditions such as a curfew or electronic monitoring would not adequately address the risks identified.

McDermott has the option of appealing the decision to deny him bail.
