NASSAU, BAHAMAS – National Security Minister Wayne Munroe hitting back at widespread criticism, after it was revealed that Bahamian officers were sent to the Turks and Caicos Islands to combat violent organized crimes.

Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander confirmed that around 20 officers were sent, including Assistant Commissioner of Police Ken Strachan.

Munroe questioned how the move can be criticized without the details of their deployment.

Munroe has said the government of TCI remains a critical partner in ensuring our people’s shared safety and well-being.

Munroe also said his ministry and its regional partners recognized the emerging national security threats developing across borders throughout the Caribbean, and government remains resolved in its strategic approach to mitigating external factors influencing our ongoing crime challenge domestically.

The police commissioner believes crime trends in both countries are linked.

Meanwhile, Turks and Caicos Islands Governor Nigel Dakin says the Bahamian officers who have been sworn in as constables in the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force are already making an impact.

This as several officers arrived in TCI last week to assist following a spree of killings within the last two months, leaving many residents on edge.

Governor Dakin says he is extremely grateful for the rapid and professional support from The Bahamas in that country’s fight against crime.
