Protestors & Police Clash in Parliament Square

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The leader of the Coalition of Independents along with several of his supporters finding themselves in police custody, Wednesday morning.

The COI party leader says the delivery of an immigration document was going smoothly until protestors and police clashed.

This was the scene outside of parliament after what was expected to be a peaceful delivery of documents to parliaments. But that quickly spiraled into chaos.

COI Leader Lincoln Bain, says his objective was simply to deliver his draft of an amended bill addressing illegal immigration in the country.

Bain says members of parliament were receptive, however, police were not.

Bain, and several other supporters were subsequently arrested.

As for that immigration document, party deputy, Maria Daxon explains the goal of the COI.

During the recess of the proceedings in the house, the group returned to parliament where Daxon attempted to deliver the document to Prime Minister Philip Davis.

Daxon says the group intends to remain at the central police station until and other supporters are released.
