UNITED KINGDOM – Clinical trials are underway to see how blood grown in a laboratory performs inside the human body.

United Kingdom researchers are hoping tiny amounts equivalent to a few teaspoons will eventually lead to the manufacturing of vital ultra-rare blood groups that are hard to get a hold of.

While the bulk of the transfusions will always rely on people regularly rolling up their sleeves, the lab blood can ultimately be used for people who depend on regular blood transfusions like Sickle Cell Anemia patients.
