W.H.O Sounds Alarm Over Cough Syrup Deaths
LONDON – W.H.O is calling for countries, manufacturers and suppliers to protect children from contaminated medicines after child deaths were linked to cough syrups.
LONDON – The World Health Organization is calling for countries, manufacturers and suppliers to protect children from contaminated medicines after a spate of child deaths linked to cough syrups last year.
The W.H.O says in 2022, more than 300 children under the age of 5, died of acute kidney injury, in deaths that were associated with contaminated medicines in Gambia, Indonesia and Uzbekistan.
The medicines, which the W.H.O. Says were over-the-counter cough syrups, had high levels of harmful chemicals.
