NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Mid-year Budget Debate wrapping up in the senate this week. Economic Affairs Minister Michael Halkitis taking the time to dispel talks of additional taxes coming for family islanders.

Economic Affairs Minister Michael Halkitis shooting down claims that real property tax will be placed on family islanders.

The Abaco Chamber of Commerce President told the Tribune newspaper Family Islands were bracing for the inevitability of real property tax being levied on Bahamian owners.

She said she and other residents were preparing for an imminent reversal of the decades-long waiver.

The economic affairs minister also explaining the plan is to better the government’s data collection.
