Businessman Loses Extradition Fight on Drug Charges

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Bahamian businessman lost his fight against extradition to the United States on drug trafficking charges. 

On Wednesday, the Court of Appeal ordered Roscoe Thompson, who was on bail, to surrender to the Central Police Station by 2pm so that he could be taken to prison to await extradition.

A U.S. grand jury indictment Thompson on a charge on conspiracy to distribute cocaine in 2007. Extradition proceedings didn’t commence until 2014.

Thompson’s accused of conspiring with others to smuggle cocaine from Colombia into the United States using The Bahamas as a transshipment point.

The appellate court rejecting arguments from Murrio Ducille KC that there was insufficient evidence to support the charge and that it would be unjust to extradite Thompson due to delay.
