SPAIN – Spain will ban some outdoor working during extreme heat conditions. Spain’s Agriculture Minister Luis Planas saying the decision came after an extraordinary cabinet meeting to tackle the effects of climate change across the country.

The ban will be in place when Spain’s national weather agency issues an alert warning about a severe or extreme risk of high temperatures, including temperatures above 102 degrees fahrenheit.

The measure will affect outdoor working such as street cleaning, construction work and farming.

The move is part of a package the socialist-led government approved on Thursday in reaction to a prolonged drought currently hitting parts of Spain, which included a total of $2.4 billion dollars to help alleviate the impact.

Spain has registered the driest start to a year since records started.
