NASSAU, BAHAMAS – The Organization for Responsible Governance is launching a virtual town hall series on the Freedom of Information Act, as members of the public still await the full enactment of the legislation.

“Freedom of Information which is an established right now for all Bahamians to be able to access information on the way government is making its decisions, or the way its spending its money, or information it could be holding that may be critically important,” said Aubry.

“That has gone forward, there was an information commissioner hired and a deputy commissioner… but what we need to do is push forward a solution so citizens can take advantage of that.”

ORG Executive Director, Matt Aubry says although government has hired an information commissioner, members of the public still cannot use their legal right to request information.

Aubry says ORG will facilitate town hall meetings during the month of February to further examine the FOIA, including what it is and how citizens can use it.

Overall, he says the FOIA will be better for national development.
