Former Haiti Consul General: My Hope And Prayer Is That Haiti Would Be Healed

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As world leaders continue to come together to find solutions that would restore law, peace, order and governance to the nation of Haiti, gangs continue to push back in an attempt to overtake the nation.

A former ambassador-at-large, charge d’affaires and consul general in Haiti is weighing in on what she believes could yield results.

The issue of gangs and violence in Haiti is not a new one. Former Ambassador-at-Large, Charge d’Affaires and Consul General in the Republic of Haiti, Marilyn Zonicle, notes that back in 2022, the then government of Haiti wrote to the secretary general of the United Nations, seeking assistance to curb crime.

This resulted in the establishment of the U.N. Security Resolution 2699, which she says is a roadmap to deal with violence.

She adds that the newly established Imminent Persons Council is a reflection of the resolution.

But what about the current situation in Haiti? She says that resolution is three-fold.

Former Ambassador Zonicle resided in Haiti during the mid to late 80s.

She describes it as one of the greatest nations in the Caribbean and says she is praying for that country’s healing.
