Columbian Drug Smuggler Testifies In Senior Officer Drug Case

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A convicted Colombian drug smuggler took the witness stand today in the trial of Assistant Superintendent Sonny Miller.

Cristhian Aristizabal, who took a plea deal in the case, testified that he flew a load of cocaine and marijuana to Spring Point, Acklins from Venezuela on June 7, 2022.

According to the witness, a police Jeep pulled up a short time later and a tall man with a big belly came out of the vehicle. The man was wearing jeans and a short-sleeve shirt, he said.

Aristizabal said the man gave him and Cristhian Aragon a metal tin in which they put some of the drugs.

The witness said that he and Aragon put some of the drugs into the police Jeep.

Sometime later, Aristizabal said he heard a helicopter. Aristizabal said he tried to flee but he stopped after the man fired two shots.

After hearing the shots, the witness said he laid on the ground near a firetruck.

The witness said he saw the man signaling to the helicopter while he pointed a gun at him and Aragon as if they were under arrest.

Miller is accused of abetting the men to import 181 pounds of cocaine, worth $1.4 million, and 31 pounds of marijuana, valued at $34,000, into Acklins.
