NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Rake and Scrape festivals and regattas are making a comeback, according to the Prime Minister who made the announcement to his constituents over the weekend.

Our Sasha Lightbourne explains.

For two and a half years COVID-19 halted all Family Island festivals and regattas, but now the Minister of Agriculture, Marine Resources and Family Island Affairs says they will make a return this year, with health and safety protocols.

Sweeting explains that the festivals hit those island economies particularly hard, as they were a source of income for many businesses.

While traditionally organized by the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and culture Sweeting says the Ministry of Health is now heavily involved.

These events draw huge crowds making it now necessary to have a large police presence.
