SURINAME – The Trade Union Federation of Suriname, known as C-47, has issued a warning, stating that their planned two-day industrial action against increased electricity rates will escalate if the government fails to address their concerns.

Backed by various unions, including those representing police and education sectors, C-47 intends to file a lawsuit against the government over the rate hikes.

While government says it’s aiming to phase out subsidies to align with IMF guidelines, C-47 insists on rectifying energy sector issues before implementing such drastic increases.
