H4H Helps Students In Need

Published

on

A non-profit food assistance program is working to help the most vulnerable students and residents, as students return to the learning environment.

Executive Director of Hands for Hunger, Keisha Ellis says school guidance counselors have been a tremendous help in identifying students in need.

Food rescue has slowed down during the pandemic, meaning Hands for Hunger is collecting less fresh food from resorts and restaurants. Even so, Ellis says overall, the organization has been able to raise funds to keep the pantry stocked, and keep outreach going for residents who are food insecure.

Ellis says that food assistance is crucial with changing food prices.

She adds that every little bit helps, and until large groups of volunteers can lend a hand again, donations and canned food drives can go a long way to help those in need.
