HAITI – Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille ordered gangs to surrender their weapons in a televised speech on Wednesday, addressing the rampant violence in Haiti’s capital.

His speech followed the arrival of 200 Kenyan police officers to help quell the violence as part of a U.N.-backed mission.

Armored vehicles with Kenyan and Haitian police patrolled downtown Port-Au-Prince as Conille vowed to recapture gang-controlled areas.

The Kenyan forces will be joined by additional personnel from various countries, aiming to restore security gradually.
