Grand Bahamians Escaping Milton Arrive Home

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – It was an emotional scene outside the Grand Bahama International Airport on Monday night as Bahamian students living in Florida were evacuated from Orlando on a Bahamasair flight.

Parents began lining up as early as 7pm to await the arrival of their children. The flight landed shortly after 9 pm.

Among those reunited were a mother and daughter, visibly emotional as they greeted each other. Ida Barbes expressing her deep concern for her daughter’s safety.

Her daughter, Nikitra Barbes, shares after experiencing Hurricane Dorian, it was important for her to be home with her family.

She adds the process of booking a flight with Bahamasair was efficient.

Lanelle Burnside expressed similar sentiments noting her concern after witnessing the damage Hurricane Helene caused in some parts of Florida.

Grand Bahamian athlete, Chavez Young who lives in Florida and University of Central Florida student Alexandre Rusell say with Hurricane Milton being a category five, it was a concern.
