U.S.A. – On July 11, Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered in another meaningless loss in a miserable season for the Miami Marlins.

Three months later, he was showered by sarcastic boos and a champagne celebration from supportive teammates in the locker room. Chisholm and the yankees are headed to the ALCS.

The Yankees closed out the Kansas City Royals Thursday night with a 4-1 win on the road in game four of the American League Divisional Series.

The Yankees will open up the ALCS against the winner of the Cleveland Guardians and Detroit Tigers on October 14.

Chisholm becomes just the second Bahamian player to advance to the championship series in either league, following Ed Armbrister in 1975 and 1976.

Chisholm didn’t have a hit in the series-clinching win on Thursday night but did reach base on a walk in the top of the sixth.

He struggled at the plate for much of the series, finishing 2-15 highlighted by a solo homer in game two, but shined both defensively and off the field, becoming a lightning rod for the ire of Royals fans.

The Yankees added Chisholm on July 27 in a trade with the marlins as the yanks sat a game back of the orioles in the al east

He hit .273 with 11 home runs in his 191 plate appearances in the regular season after the trade, helping the yankees fend off the orioles for the AL East crown.

WNBA

It began with a historic start and concluded with a thrilling finish – in the end, Jonquel Jones and the New York Liberty surrendered an 18 point lead to lose game one of the WNBA finals.

Jones led the Liberty with a double-double, 24 points and 10 rebounds but the number one overall seed fell 95-93 in overtime to the Minnesota Lynx Thursday night at the Barclays Center.

Jones shot on 64 percent from the field, was a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line and had a game-high four offensive rebounds.

The Liberty scored 32 points in the opening quarter, their highest-scoring first quarter in a WNBA finals game in franchise history.

That feel good was short lived.

Minnesota erased a second quarter 18-point deficit and a 15-point deficit with 5:20 in regulation.

The Lynx had a four point play at the end of regulation, and a go ahead jumper with 8.8 seconds left in overtime.

Reigning MVP Breanna Stewart had one final opportunity for the Liberty, but her layup missed the mark as time expired.

Jones had plenty of big moments, a layup that gave New York a nine point lead with just over 3 minutes left in the fourth, and a corner three in overtime.

NBA

Buddy Hield and the Golden State Warriors look like a perfect match.

His excellency finished with 22 points in the Warriors’ 122-112 win over the Sacramento Kings at the Golden 1 Center in California.

Back in the confines of a familiar arena against his former team – Hield shot 8-9 from the field and 6-7 from beyond the arch.
