PM: Country’s International Standing Has Never Been Better

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Amid an ongoing indictment that saw senior law enforcement officers charged for drugs and gun trafficking, Prime Minister Philip Davis telling local pastors the country’s reputation remains intact.

The prime minister was responding to a question from a local pastor at a luncheon with clergymen from across the island.

The indictment names Chief Superintendent of Police Elvis Curtis, who was officer-in-charge of the airport division, Sergeant Prince Symonette, who works with Curtis, and RBDF Chief Petty Officer Darrin Roker as conspirators who helped facilitate the transshipment of tons of cocaine from South America through The Bahamas and ultimately the United States.

Davis says the country is still among many highly respected countries across the world.

As it relates to our relationship with the United States, Davis said the relationship remains untarnished.

“I did bring the chair D’ affairs in, to speak to her about these things and she explained that she didn’t know about it herself, but said it had nothing to do with our relationship,” the prime minister said.

“I had the minister of foreign affairs speak to the state department to tell them what my views are on what they did and they said it has nothing to do with our relationship.”

Despite this, he admits the indictment is unfairly tarnishing the country’s image.

He also cautioned against making the matter political.
