Murder Convict Serving 30 Years Released on Bail
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After spending more than three decades in prison, a murder convict has been released on bail as he awaits resentencing.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – After spending more than three decades in prison, a murder convict has been released on bail as he awaits resentencing.
Ricardo Farrington was initially sentenced to hang in 1992 for the shooting death of Renard Ferguson at Soldier Road in 1990.
However, in 1996, sentence was later commuted to life by the Privy Council due to delays in carrying out the punishment.
A decade later, the Privy Council ruled that the mandatory death penalty was unconstitutional, leading to the resentencing of murder convicts by the Supreme Court.
Farrington’s efforts to be resentenced by the Supreme Court were denied, however, since his initial sentence had been changed by a higher court.
Following a hearing this month, the Privy Council ordered Farrington resentenced and released him on bail.
