GUATEMALA – In Guatemala15 people were killed and 19 injured after a bus lost control and plunged into a ravine in Sololá on Saturday.

Authorities say the victims included 11 men, three women, and one minor.

The bus was traveling from Guatemala City to San Marcos along the Inter-American Highway when it lost control around midnight.

Dozens of rescuers and about 20 ambulances responded, carrying out a two-and-a-half-hour operation to recover victims and transport the injured to nearby hospitals.

Fatal bus crashes are common on Guatemala’s mountainous highways due to steep terrain and difficult road conditions.
