Charlton, Cartwright Finish in Top Four at Millrose Games

U.S.A. – The top sprint hurdlers in the country went head to head against a star-studded field at the Millrose Games.

Devynne Charlton finished third in 7.83 seconds while Denisha Cartwright finished fourth in 7.84 seconds at the 117th Millrose Games at the Nike Track and Field Center at the armory in New York.

Charlton’s training partner, Masai Russell, finished first in a world leading time of 7.76 secs followed by Grace Stark, second in 7.82 secs

The World Athletics Indoor Tour continues this week with the National Grand Prix in China  and the Golden Spike in the Czech Republic.

Both Charlton and Cartwright are expected to compete at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, March 21-23, in China.

NCAA Track and Field& Field

In NCAA Track and Field the indoor season continued for Division I athletes with this weekend’s biggest highlight produced in the field.

Brenden Vanderpool took first place in the pole vault for Samford University at the UAB Invite in Alabama.

The Bulldogs took the top four spots in the event, led  Vanderpool who cleared 5.53 meters.

It currently stands as 10th best mark in the country this season and is the second best in Samford indoor school history.

Texas Tech junior Antoine Andrews picked up another win on the circuit.

At the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, Andrews won the 60m hurdles in 7.62 seconds.

He also reached the 60m final but did not start.

NCAA Basketball

A dynamic freshman season has come to an early end for national team standout Donavan Freeman.

Syracuse basketball announced that Freeman is set to undergo a procedure that will sideline him for the remainder of the season.

One of the most highly touted recruits in program history, he appeared in 14 games, averaging 13.4 points and 7.9 rebounds per game.

His last appearance was January 4 against the Florida State Seminoles.

A McDonald’s All-American and the no. 6 recruit in the 2024 class, freeman also made his Bahamian national team debut this summer at the FIBA Olympic qualifier in Valencia, Spain. 

NBA G-League

Kai Jones had video game efficiency for the San Diego clippers in NBA G-league action.

Jones finished with 24 points on 10-11 shooting from the field in the Clippers’ 125-113 win over the South Bay Lakers.

 Jones also added  nine rebounds and nine of those 10 field goals were dunks. 

The Clippers outscored the lakers 62-50 in the second half, had a 30 rebound advantage on the glass.

The game between the two in state rivalries was the largest attendance this season for the Clippers at Frontwave Arena.
