CHINA – China is reporting its first COVID deaths in six months with fresh warnings the capital is facing its most severe situation since the start of the pandemic.

Three fatalities were reported in Beijing since Saturday brining the official death toll to 5,229.

The deaths are amid rare protests over china’s zero COVID policy.

The controversial strategy is seeing millions locked down and positive cases forcibly quarantined.

Officials in Beijing are already imposing lockdowns in commercial and school districts with three million people urged to stay at home.
