PENTAGON – As preparations accelerate for a multinational security force to deploy to Haiti, federal contract opportunities from the US Department of Defense detail the extent of US involvement in planning the mission.

The Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS) aims to bolster local police against gangs overrunning Haiti’s capital, Port-Au-Prince.

Led by Kenya, the mission is expected to arrive soon after several delays.

Recent contract postings by the defense department reveal us efforts to equip the multinational force, including providing security for their base, internet services for 1,400 users, and sundry items for 1,300 personnel.

About 150 US security contractors are already in Haiti, with a $30 million contract awarded to Gardaworld for private security and protection services at the mission base.
