NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Sixty minutes of recycled ideas and initiatives is how Opposition Leader Michael Pintard describes the Davis administration’s Speech from the Throne.

Pintard adding that over past two years, the majority of the promises made in the last Speech from the Throne were not accomplished, and today there were additional commitments and still he says key issues were missing.

Also noticeably absent, Pintard says, was addressing the reduction of crime, as well as the issue of immigration. Those coupled with the lack of focus on the Grand Bahamian economy.

Now while the speech focused on five key pillars – that is the cost of living, education, crime, healthcare, and jobs – Pintard says the speech also lacked word on anti-corruption legislation, the Freedom of Information Act, and the Ombudsman Bill.

Also of concern was no mention of the Marital Rape Bill or amendments to the protection against violence bill despite pushback from women’s groups.
