Police Commissioner: Crime Stats Down for the First Quarter of 2023

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Crime statistics for the first quarter of 2023 are out and many may be surprised to know the numbers of serious crimes are down when compared to last year.

In the wake of an active week of crime, police breaking down the numbers of serious crimes such as murders, armed robberies, and rape for the first quarter of the year.

Police Commissioner Clayton Fernander telling media that while the fight against crime still rages, serious crimes are down when compared to this same period last year.

The murder count is now 41, a 16 percent decrease when compared to the same period last year.

Police are concerned however that the suspects in these cases are mostly repeat offenders.

Despite the downward trend with murder and armed robberies, police reported a 10 percent increase in rape cases.

Fernander says while all of the numbers show a positive trend when compared to last year, there is still much work to be done.
