There’s No Question I’m Running in 2026 Election

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Former Progressive Liberal Party cabinet Minister Shane Gibson says he intends to run in the 2026 general elections.

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – More than three years after being acquitted of corruption charges after he left office in 2017 and revealing plans to exit frontline politics, former Progressive Liberal Party cabinet Minister Shane Gibson telling Our news he intends to run in the 2026 general elections.

In fact, Gibson says he’s already formally made his intentions known to his party.

Gibson held the Golden Gates seat for the Progressive Liberal Party from 2002 until being defeated at the polls in 2017.

This time he has his eye is on the MICAL constituency which consists of Mayuana, Inagua, Crooked Island, Acklins, and Long cay.

It was widely reported last year that Gibson was interested in that seat after local dailies published an October 2022 letter Gibson wrote to the PLP Secretary General Barbara Cartwright.

In it, Gibson said he had been inundated with calls from frustrated voters who encouraged him to offer himself as a candidate. The current MICAL MP is Basil McIntosh, who is also a PLP.

And should the PLP not accept his application, he says, “I’m prepared to exercise any option to run.”
