As a predominately black nation, Dr. Nelson-Sands says Bahamians can sometimes underestimate the effects of consistent sun exposure on the skin.

She shares some signs and symptoms you should be aware of that could signal it’s time to see a dermatologist.

And when it comes to prevention, she says daily use of sunscreen remains the best protection. Dr. Nelson-Sands adding that medical professionals are even now recommending sunscreen use at night.
