Social Service Assistance to Increase 10%

NASSAU, BAHAMAS – As Bahamians grapple with the hardship of escalating prices due to global inflation, the Ministry of Social Services is looking to provide some relief by increase assistance. Berthony McDermott reports.

That increase according to the social services minister will be 10% across the board.

Wilchcombe says the intervention from government is more essential than ever.

He says the decision comes as a result of inflation that has been negatively impacting the pockets of many Bahamians.

The last time there was an increase was back in 2013.

Speaking to parliament Wednesday morning, Wilchocombe explaining that in the previous budget period thousands of Bahamians received food, medical and rental assistance among other things.
