UNITED STATES – Public schools across the U.S. are seeing a sharp drop in immigrant student enrollment according to the Associated Press.

AP says it’s a trend officials link to President Trump’s immigration crackdown and fewer families crossing the border.

In Miami Dade AP reports newcomer enrollment has plunged from more than 20,000 two years ago to just over 2,500 this year, erasing about $70 million from the district’s budget.

AP says districts in Alabama, Texas, Colorado and Massachusetts are seeing the same drop with some families self-deporting out of fear of enforcement.

Educators tell AP the loss goes beyond numbers, warning students are missing critical social supports and cultural connections.
