NASSAU, BAHAMAS – Success isn’t always a straight path, and few athletes embody that truth like Bahamian discus thrower Serena Brown.

After battling multiple injuries and setbacks, Brown, the national record holder in the discus, is determined to make her long-awaited return to competition. With a renewed sense of focus and a clean bill of health, she’s now setting her sights on fulfilling her Olympic dream.

FOURTEEN INDUCTED INTO NATIONAL SPORTS HALL OF FAME

A new group of sporting legends has officially joined the Bahamas National Sports Hall of Fame.

In a ceremony held last night at Sandals Royal Bahamian, the 2025 class of inductees was honored by the local sports community for their outstanding contributions to athletics, coaching, and sports development.

The inductees include:

  • Foster Dorsett and Norbert Elliott – Athletics
  • Arnold Bain, Steven “Bulla” Pinder (posthumously), and Fr. Marcian Peters (posthumously) – Basketball
  • Ernie Barr and Alvin Sargent – Boxing
  • Sidney St. Clair and Kim Thompson – Cycling
  • Don Cornish and Laverne Symonette – Volleyball
  • Joseph “Joe Billy” Rolle – Horse Racing
  • Rev. Dr. Phillip McPhee – Sailing
  • Rex Burnside – Bodybuilding and Powerlifting

These honorees join an elite list of Bahamian sports icons whose achievements have shaped the nation’s athletic legacy.

MIXED RESULTS FOR MINGOES BASKETBALL AND SOCCER TEAMS

It was a weekend of highs and lows for the University of The Bahamas MINGOES.

In men’s soccer, Kevin Thomas recorded a hat trick, leading the team to a dominant 11–0 victory over Cavalier FC in Bahamas Men’s Soccer League play , their third straight win.

However, the men’s basketball team faced heartbreak on the road, dropping two close matchups against United International College.

In Game One, the MINGOES fell 82–79, despite Terrance Higgs leading the charge with 21 points, Jeremiah Miller adding 19, and Kevaro Russell scoring 18.

Game Two was another nail-biter, ending 83–82 in favor of UIC. Higgs tallied 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Shameco Albury contributed 18 points and seven assists.
