Grand Bahama Shipyard Welcomes Arrival of New 2XL Floating Dry Dock “East End”

GRAND BAHAMA, BAHAMAS – Grand Bahama Shipyard Limited (GBSL) proudly announces the arrival of its new 2XL floating dry dock, ‘East End,’ bringing to fruition a major milestone in the Shipyard’s redevelopment and expansion.

The mammoth structure, measuring 357.39 meters in length and 70 meters in beam, arrived in Freeport Harbour Saturday afternoon, drawing residents to the waterfront to witness the impressive moment.

GBSL CEO Chris Earl hailed the event as a transformational moment for the Shipyard indicating that “the arrival of ‘East End’ greatly enhances cruise docking and retrofit capability and expands our commercial docking capacity. East End operations will commence in early 2026 and an even larger dock, Lucayan, is expected later in the year.”

Earl added “the transformation of Grand Bahama Shipyard represents a huge opportunity to create a world-class ship repair ecosystem here in The Bahamas, and we look forward to working with the community to make this significant investment a success.”

East End is engineered to lift up to 93,500 tons and will feature four modern cranes and advanced control systems. The dock’s arrival follows significant on- site upgrades, including the extension of the Shipyard’s pier, which has already completed.

Once both East End and the second dock, Lucayan, are operational; Grand Bahama Shipyard is expected to be the largest and most capable cruise ship repair facility in the world.
