VJ Shows Out In The Rising Stars Challenge

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA – The combo guard from Bimini turned all the way up in the challenge, which featured four teams of NBA rookies, 2nd year players, and G-League All-Stars.

His team, team Vince Carter, played in the four-game single-elimination tournament with both games in the first round going to 40 points.

Vj singlehandedly brought the win home in the first game, scoring a team high 17 points and he scored the last 10 points of the game, including a nifty finish for the pentultimate bucket and a crafty move into a stop-and-pop at the elbow to will his team into the finals.

In the final game, which went to 25 he scored a clutch bucket on a putback to put his team within two points of a win, and he brought it home, steaming to the bucket to draw a foul, subsequently hitting both free throws to seal the win.

For his clutch shot making, VJ was named MVP.

Pickleball

50 athletes from all levels participated in the event at the courts at Baha Mar, hosted by the Bahamas Pickleball Federation and Baha Mar. It featured a clinic from raquet pro Marion Bain, and a tournament, which was won by Ena Gervasini and Peter Azar.

Kelsie Johnson Sills, Director of Sports in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, was in attendance as well as Kelly-Anne Mead of the Bahamas Pickleball Federation.

Baha Mar Director of Racket Derron Donaldson indicated that he was thrilled with the turnout. He was happy that the federation selected Baha Mar to collaborate with and that he can’t wait to do it again.
