NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Nassau landlord is behind bars after his tenant accused him of rape.
NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A Nassau landlord is behind bars after his tenant accused him of rape.
Prosecutors say 47-year-old Joey Sawyer raped the 49-year-old woman on April 11 after he asked her about outstanding rent.
Sawyer did not have a lawyer when he stood before Acting Chief Magistrate Ancella Evans.
He was not required to enter a plea and remanded to prison as the magistrate lacks the jurisdiction to grant bail for the charge.
Sawyer was advised of his right to seek bail in the Supreme Court.
He’s next before the magistrate on August 6 to receive voluntary bill of indictment papers.
