Murray Climbs Cubs Prospect Rankings

Bahamian infielder BJ Murray Jr. is back on the Chicago Cubs’ top prospects list, according to MLB Pipeline.

MLB Pipeline now ranks the 26-year-old as the No. 25 prospect in the Cubs organization.

Playing with the Triple-A Iowa Cubs, Murray is batting .303 with 108 hits, 62 runs scored, 12 home runs, 55 RBIs, nine stolen bases, a .407 on-base percentage, and a .908 OPS in 357 at-bats.

His ability to hit for average, get on base, and provide power has made him an attractive piece for organizations looking to add a Major League-ready bat.

Following the Major League Baseball trade deadline, Murray’s name continued to surface in trade rumors as the Cubs looked to strengthen their roster for a postseason push.

Instead of moving the power-hitting corner infielder, Chicago dealt other prospects while acquiring relievers Ryan Zeferjahn and Clay Holmes, along with veteran outfielder Tyrone Taylor.

The decision to hold on to Murray speaks to the value he has created this season.

While trade speculation surrounded his name right up to the deadline, the Cubs elected to keep Murray, a move that could put him in line for his first Major League opportunity as Chicago continues its playoff push.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. broke out of a mini slump in a big way Tuesday night, hitting his 17th home run of the season to help the New York Yankees defeat the St. Louis Cardinals 2-0 at Yankee Stadium.

After going hitless in his previous 13 at-bats, Chisholm put the Yankees on the board in the second inning with a solo home run to right field off Cardinals starter Hunter Dobbins. The blast came off a 79.4-mile-per-hour curveball, left the bat at 103.2 miles per hour, and traveled 397 feet.

Chisholm and top prospect George Lombard Jr. both homered, giving Yankees fans a glimpse of what could be the club’s future middle infield.

Earlier this week, Chisholm reached another milestone by recording 30 stolen bases for the third consecutive season.

He enters the final weeks of the season with 17 home runs, 46 RBIs, 54 runs scored, and 30 stolen bases while batting .218 with a .293 on-base percentage and a .402 slugging percentage.

Chisholm is tied for second in Major League Baseball in stolen bases and, with about 50 games remaining, appears well on his way to his second career 40-steal season.

2026 Commonwealth Games

Karra Hanna made history for The Bahamas, capturing the country’s first-ever Commonwealth Games judo medal with a bronze in the women’s over 78-kilogram division in Glasgow, Scotland.

The podium finish capped an impressive week for Hanna, who posted her second top-five finish in less than a week after placing fifth at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Santo Domingo.

In the bronze medal match, Hanna defeated Marie Loanne Durhone of Mauritius by ippon. She scored a waza-ari at the 3:51 mark before finishing the match just eight seconds later to secure the historic medal.

Her path to the podium included an opening ippon victory over Essohanam Noeline Koro of Togo in the quarterfinals before a semifinal loss to Richelle Soppi Mbella of Cameroon. Hanna responded with her strongest performance of the day to claim bronze.

The result provided sweet redemption after she narrowly missed the podium at the CAC Games, where she lost the bronze medal match to the Dominican Republic’s Moira Morillo.

Hanna’s bronze, coupled with Devynne Charlton’s gold in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, helped The Bahamas finish the Games in a three-way tie for 20th place in the medal standings with Fiji and the Isle of Man, with each country winning one gold and one bronze medal.

Also representing The Bahamas in judo, Xavion Johnson advanced to the quarterfinals after an opening ippon victory over Taiwo Aremu of Nigeria. Johnson later fell to Benjamin Levy of England in the quarterfinals and Oliver Short of Scotland in the repechage to finish tied for seventh.
