NASSAU, BAHAMAS – A man convicted of raping an American tourist in San Salvador has lost his final chance to appeal his 20-year prison sentence.

The privy council has refused Henry Darren Hay permission to appeal, leaving his conviction and sentence in place.

Gay was convicted in 2019 in connection with the 2014 sexual assault of a 17-year-old American tourist.

The court heard that the 17-year old was returning from a bike ride in San Salvador when she was attacked.

Gay was arrested within an hour of the incident being reported to police.

The victim identified Gay as the man responsible.
