HAITI – The United Nations has allocated an additional $75 million to provide emergency assistance to 507,000 people in Haiti amid escalating violence, displacement and disruptions to essential services.

The Haiti Humanitarian Fund allocation, announced yesterday, will support 10 projects across 28 priority communes in three departments.

The funding will give support for a myriad of sectors, including providing food, safe drinking water, health care, emergency shelters, and protection for women and children at risk of abuse and exploitation.

The humanitarian situation remains severe, with an estimated 6.4 million people in Haiti requiring assistance and nearly 6 million facing acute food insecurity.

Violence has displaced almost 1.5 million people, half of them within the past 18 months.
